Manchester Credit Union has been announced as the only finalist from the Greater Manchester region at the Consumer Credit Awards.

The credit union, which is a non-profit cooperative that is owned by its 32,000 members, has been in business for 30 years providing an ethical savings alternative to high street banks, as well as affordable loans.

After ten weeks of voting and more than 25,000 votes received, the financial provider has been shortlisted for the category of Best Credit Union (North) - with competitors including Glasgow and Sheffield Credit Unions.

Christine Moore, chief executive of Manchester Credit Union, said: "We are over the moon to be representing Greater Manchester as a finalist at these prestigious awards.

"We may have more than thirty thousand members, but there is still more for us to do to raise awareness of our savings and loans services as a local, ethical alternative to high street banks.

"Receiving national recognition for our efforts to ensure Mancunians can take control of their money matters motivates us to keep spreading the word and encouraging people to save and borrow with their local credit union!”

Voting to determine the winners will now continue until 5th September, with members of the public encouraged to submit their vote online - voters will be entered into a £1000 prize draw.

The winners will be revealed on Thursday 23rd September in a digital event on our social media channels from 3pm.
