Financial planning company appoints new compliance director

"It is fantastic to join the Clarion team. The business has an excellent compliance record. It takes the matter very seriously with its own rules, policies and processes on top of those from the FCA."
Robin Townsend, Compliance Director

Cheshire based Clarion Wealth Planning has appointed a new compliance director to enhance the company's dedication to its clients.

Robin Townsend, who has an extensive background in the financial services sector, joined the company which specialises in true lifelong financial planning and investment management at the beginning of November.

Robin said: “It is fantastic to join the Clarion team. Clarion attracted me as a company because of the type of clients with which it works and the top-quality service it strives to offer via its process of true lifelong financial planning.

“The business has an excellent compliance record. It takes the matter very seriously with its own rules, policies and processes on top of those from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to achieve protection and excellent outcomes for clients – and I aim to further enhance this work.”

Robin, who joined Clarion from a Cheshire based financial adviser network, began his career in financial planning as an adviser but was drawn to the technical side of compliance.

He added: “Having performed the adviser role, I have a greater understanding and appreciation of what is required. Those with experience of only the compliance field may

sometimes place hurdles in the way. I take great satisfaction in providing solutions for the Clarion advisers and ultimately for the needs of the clients who are at the heart of everything that we do.

“Compliance is a gatekeeper for the whole business, an oversight role for FCA rules and regulations. We are abreast of the ever-changing rules and become deeply knowledgeable in them very quickly.

“Day-to-day, I am concerned with supporting our financial advisers with the expertise to answer their questions to help them perform to the highest standard our clients expect and deserve, policy, procedures, regulations and reporting, and checking the advice provided by our financial planners.”

Outside of work, Robin has busy family life with his wife Vicky and their three children and enjoys clocking up 150 miles a week, cycling the roads of Cheshire.

Clarion founder Ron Walker is delighted to welcome Robin to the team.

He said: “Robin is a highly experienced and capable individual whose presence will greatly benefit the Clarion team.

“In this new role for Clarion as Compliance Director, Robin will work with the senior leadership team to ensure our operations are entirely in line with all FCA regulatory rules, as well as our own policies and processes, to give our clients the same peace of mind our financial planners do."
