Cowens Celebrates Most Successful Year to Date

East Midlands based insurance broker and financial planning firm, Cowens Group, is celebrating its most successful year in business yet.

2019 has seen a number of award wins, record breaking business growth, new product launches and the largest team expansion since the company was established in 1973.

The year started strongly as Cowens was awarded the Silver Investors in People accreditation in January. This award win was followed up with further recognition as the financial planning side of the business were included in the New Model Adviser Top 100 financial planning firms in the UK and all three areas of the business (financial planning, insurance broking and employee benefits) retained their Chartered status for another year.

To cater for its rapidly expanding client base, the business has also grown its workforce by 25 per cent, taking on 15 new staff members across all areas. As part of this recruitment push, Cowens has taken on a number of junior Account Handlers and an Administration Apprentice, to help develop the careers of young people from across the East Midlands.

As well as an increase in general commercial insurance broking services, Cowens has welcomed a host of new barbering clients thanks to the launch of its brand new insurance product designed specifically for the barbering industry. BarberSure, which was launched in October, is a unique offering that provides bespoke, tailor-made cover for both employees and barber shops.

He said: “2019 has been a real turning point for Cowens and I am immensely proud of our achievements. Thanks to the hard work of our team, we have retained our chartered status and have been recognised within the Top 100 financial planning firms in the country – a huge accolade for us.

“Following our rebrand at the end of 2018, our main objectives were to expand our team and increase our reach across the country. By recruiting a large number of experienced professionals as well as lots of promising young talent, we have increased our capacity and capability, meaning that we have been able to further improve our high levels of customer service and grow our client base. As a result, we are now helping more businesses and individuals manage their insurance policies and finances than ever before.”

Thanks to a number of significant contract wins throughout 2019, Cowens Group now plans to extend its Mansfield headquarters, by opening an ‘Innovation Hub’ in 2020. The new building will house the Cowens Express Cover team; a brand new team of employees put together to work in partnership with a major national insurer to cater for a growing demand for quick, easy and flexible commercial insurance.

Together with business related achievements, the Cowens team has also raised over £3,500 for cancer and children’s organisation Big C Little C this year. The East Midlands organisation works together with businesses to raise money for the NSPCC and Cancer Research UK. Employees have taken part in a number of challenges including an Orkney Island cycle and mud runs to raise the final amount.
