Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK has been awarded an extension to its place on a major waste management and landfill framework.

Jones Bros extends place on Viridor waste management framework

The family firm will continue its contract, awarded by Viridor, the biggest UK-owned recycling and energy recovery company, in to 2020.

The multi-million-pound framework has been in place since 2017, with Jones Bros delivering work worth up to £8m in 2019 alone.

Geraint Thomas, contracts director, said: “We have considerable experience in waste remediation, and are pleased that Viridor has chosen to extend the framework further.

“We have a long history when it comes to on-site safety, and our track record in landfill via this framework, as well as through other projects across the UK, speaks for itself.”

The original framework with Viridor ran for two years, with an option for a further two years.

During the framework, the Ruthin-based civil engineering company successfully completed its biggest ever project for Viridor. Jones Bros delivered a new non-hazardous waste cell, extended an existing asbestos cell and carried out final restoration capping at the Erin landfill site in Chesterfield.

Geraint added: “We’re looking forward to continuing our successful work with Viridor over the next 12 months.”

Viridor’s Head of Major Contracts & Landfill, Paul Rowland, said Jones Bros continued to support a number of projects for the company.

He added that Viridor was pleased to continue this relationship, which reflects the high standards required for the modern landfill sites which form part of Viridor’s landfill and energy recovery portfolio.

Jones Bros provides a variety of remediation services for land remediation, contaminated land and brownfield sites, and has a reputation for being one of the leading qualified remediation contractors.

Its expertise in waste remediation has naturally led to further work in the recycling and waste management facility sector, including designing and building a range of recycling and waste management centres.

Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros’ leadership team consists of members of the second and third generations of the founding family. It employs more than 400 people.

As well as waste management projects, the company is currently working on contracts in various sectors including highways, flood and marine defence, and renewable energy around the UK.

The company runs an award-winning apprenticeship scheme, which has produced more than 40 per cent of its current workforce, with many of its senior managers having started out as apprentices or in a trainee role.  It has recruited more than 100 apprentices during the past three years.
