Leeds engineers win new work on multi-million pound logistics hub

"RWO continue to be an important strategic partner, adding value to our own operations with critical sector insight, experience and expertise in large scale engineering design work."

Leeds engineers RWO has won an undisclosed contract to support the development of a new multi-million-pound industrial centre on the site of a former North Yorkshire coal mine.

The firm is providing engineering design services for new infrastructure at the 141-acre Konect rail-connected manufacturing and logistics hub, currently under construction at the former Kellingley Colliery. Once completed, the 1.5 million sq. ft. site will be the only inland facility of its type offering integrated connectivity for businesses via road, rail and water.

The move sees RWO partnering with Wakefield-based company Peter Duffy Ltd to design the proposed site access and junction improvements. Its also developing plans for a new internal site access road, which will include drainage as well as offsite works to improve the control and storage of surface water.

Work on Konect, which is part of Harworth Group’s planned investment in its land and property regeneration operations, is the latest contract success for RWO. The Park Place firm won the contract on the back of its extensive experience in site and infrastructure works and follows previous projects completed for Peter Duffy.

RWO, which recently took additional workspace at its Leeds office, more than doubling office capacity to meet soaring demand for its services, currently employs 22 peopleand is targeting revenues in excess of £2m in the next 12 months.

The firm has also secured work from construction companies ESH and ISG, and Erris Homes in Leeds and Seagate Homes in Lincolnshire recently to help drive growth.

Andrew Fairburn, head of RWO’s Leeds office, said: “We are going from strength-to-strength with project wins such as Konect. This and other work reflect our ability to take a strategic view of major property investment plans from an engineering design perspective while delivering high quality work to clients.

“We continue to grow our commercial offering and this latest success comes as we fully expect to achieve further growth in 2021 on the back of new work in the region and across the UK.”

Rob Hudson, commercial director at Peter Duffy Ltd, said: “RWO continue to be an important strategic partner, adding value to our own operations with critical sector insight, experience and expertise in large scale engineering design work.”
