Wynne Construction is building a new three-storey, 96,000 sqft building on Coleg Cambria’s Yale site, which will include a 200-seat conference hall, restaurant, and sports facilities.

Installation of steel at the £20m scheme has now been completed with work on the project progressing in good time ahead of its August 2020 completion date.

Graham Dickson, contracts manager at Wynne Construction, said: “The team has worked very well together on all aspects so far and with the steel Frame erection now completed, with work ongoing across the rest of the site.

“The project is actually ahead of schedule at the moment and the client is very happy with the way things are progressing. We’re getting lots of positive feedback in the meetings we’ve had with them.

“The concrete floor decks at 1st & 2nd floor levels are complete to all phases with the ground floor concrete slabs due to be complete within the next 3 weeks. The vertical cladding and roof coverings are also well advanced and should be complete very shortly.

The internal stud wall construction and mechanical and electrical installations have commenced within phase 1 areas.

The project is the latest contract in the education sector for Wynne Construction following its completion of a £14m Deeside Sixth in Deeside, and a £3m business school in Northop.

It is also the award-winning company’s third major build in Wrexham within 12 months, after its completion of Coleg Cambria’s £10m Bersham Road site, and the £4.5m Tŷ Pawb market and arts centre in 2018.

Coleg Cambria CEO David Jones said: "The £21m Yale redevelopment comes after the college invested up to £30m at its sites in Deeside, Bersham Road and Northop.

"We are committed to giving our students the very best education in a cutting-edge environment, and have delivered on that promise over the last three years."

Wynne Construction, which operates throughout Wales and the North West of England, regularly leads on projects in sectors including education, healthcare, and sport and leisure.

In November 2018, it was named SME of the Year (up to 250 employees) at the UK-wide Constructing Excellence awards.
