"It is important to showcase the outstanding work in the art of civil engineering throughout the North East, as these projects contribute so much to society and improve peoples everyday lives"
Penny Marshall, ICE North East Regional Director
Engineering firms and organisations from across the North East are invited to showcase their work in the annual Robert Stephenson Awards sponsored by CDM Recruitment.
These prestigious awards organised by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) have three categories, large, medium and small, for projects valued at more than £5 million, between £1-5 million and those with a value up to £1 million.
Nominations are open to projects completed or substantially completed in the last two years, with the winners announced and presented by the ICE President at the ICE North East dinner and awards ceremony on 3 April 2020, at the Grand Hotel Gosforth Park. This year the judges will be paying particular attention to the sustainability, climate change impact and carbon footprint of the projects.
In 2019, the Greatham South Flood Alleviation Scheme won the ‘large’ category; it is a vital piece of the jigsaw in delivering the Tidal Tees Flood Risk Management Strategy, providing flood defenses to 358 homes. The medium and small categories were won by the Whitley Bay coastal protection works and River Leven erosion project, respectively.
Penny Marshall, ICE North East Regional Director, said: “The annual awards recognise the delivery of effective infrastructure projects and promote the very best of civil engineering across the North East. Each year, they are keenly contested by the region’s leading engineering and project management firms, and I am expecting another strong cohort of entries for 2020.
“It is important to showcase the outstanding work in the art of civil engineering throughout the North East, as these projects contribute so much to society and improve people’s everyday lives.”
The early bird entry fee for completed entries received by 13 December is £100 exc. VAT. The standard entry fee for completed entries received by the closing date of 10 January is £150 exc. VAT.
