"This event is the cornerstone of our fundraising year. The emphasis is on fun, making people think and raising funds for our crucial support of unpaid carers of all ages."
Michelle Smith CEO Blackpool Carers Centre

The feathers have been flying at Blackpool Carers Centre as carers have added unique touches of style, glitz and glamour to masks for the big fundraising ball of the year.

Carers are good at masking inner feelings but it’s great when they get a chance to express them in creative form.

This year Blackpool and Venice have something in common other than rain in February – the charity is hosting a Venetian Masquerade Ball. It’s taking place on Saturday February 9 at the Imperial Hotel from 6.30pm to 2am!

More than 300 are attending –  and any late comer table sponsors would be more than welcome. If you haven’t got a mask, don’t worry, the charity’s own mask stall will be set up in the reception lounge, and the jooshed up (embellished) masks will be on sale for a fiver each. There will also be prizes for the best mask!

The ball is being held in the Lancastrian suite with Hayley Kay welcoming guests and introducing Michelle Smith, the CEO of Blackpool Carers Centre, and Paul Jebb, the chair of trustees. There’s a fantasy fizz reception, divinely decadent four course dinner, half bottle of wine per person,  and entertainment throughout.

Special recognition awards for social care, health, community partnership, achievement, educational establishment and young fundraiser of the year will be presented by Coronation Street’s Lucy Fallon with an unusual co-star in support – Rocco the carers’ donkey mascot.

It gives the charity a chance to show off their new star  at the highlight event of the year– after Lucy recently became an ambassador for Blackpool Carers Centre, keen to support a local charity helping local children and families in her home town.

Given how well her character Bethany looked after her best friend Craig on the cobbles of Corrie, the charity’s in caring celebrity hands.

At last year’s Spring Ball 330 guests raised £15,300 to help support unpaid carers.

"This event is really the cornerstome of our fundraising calendar," says CEO Michelle. "The emphasis is on fun, making people think, and raising funds for our crucial support of unpaid carers."
