Cheadle-based charity, the Together Trust, is hosting a series of free drop-in sessions to provide support and guidance to local parents and carers of young people with autism spectrum conditions (ASC).

The events will be held on 10 June and 8 July between 10am and 12pm at the charity’s headquarters in Schools Hill, Cheadle, and give attendees the opportunity to build their support network and share their experiences with other families.

Hosted by the Together Trust’s Sue Allison, an experienced speech and language therapist with twenty years’ experience of working with young people who have an ASC, the sessions are specially designed to equip families with additional tools to care for their young person.

The June session will be led by the Together Trust’s Bill Taylor, who will examine the concept of autistic behaviour within our own behaviour patterns and challenge some of the assumptions around this topic.

While in the July session, Sue Allison and head of outreach therapy, Sue Whitehead, will discuss the impact of autism on siblings and how to make day-to-day life easier for families through the use of autism specific strategies, such as visual support and social stories.

Sue Allison said: “These events follow a number of successful sessions held earlier this year, and will provide those attending with the chance to build a strong support network with other members of the community. Dr Bill Taylor will be talking about some of the recurring concerns around autistic behaviour that we hear from parents and carers, and the Together Trust’s experienced team will be on-hand to answer any questions.”

Spaces are limited so please register your interest by phoning Sue Allison 0161 283 4766 – please leave a message and Sue will call you back. If you are not able to attend at these times, it may be possible to arrange individual appointments.
