Architects grand effort for Disability Action Yorkshire

"We cannot thank SSA Architects enough for their continued support of our charity"

A Harrogate disability charity has received a new year financial boost thanks to a local architect practice.

S+SA Architects’ annual pedalthon, which was officially started by Calendar news presenter Christine Talbot at the town’s DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa, has raised just over £1,000 for Disability Action Yorkshire.

The riders – whose numbers included Harrogate Borough Mayor, Coun Stuart Martin, and Disability Action Yorkshire Chair, Neil Revely - followed a 50km route around the District, finishing back at the hotel later in the day.

The Victoria Avenue firm has a long-standing association with Disability Action Yorkshire, when they drew up the plans for the charity’s Claro Road residential care home in 2005.

And, since then, the S+SA Architects team have undertaken a series of fund-raising activities for the charity, including an annual sponsored cycle.

S+SA Architects director Mark Fisher said: “Once again we are delighted to have completed our annual pedalthon on behalf of Disability Action Yorkshire, which has raised £1,005.

“I would like to thank all the cyclists who took part, the DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa, Christine Talbot and the Mayor for their support, plus everyone who sponsored the riders.

“The pedalthon has become an annual fixture in our diary and we are now planning this year’s ride with the hope of attracting more participants and raising more money for Disability Action Yorkshire.”

Jackie Snape, Disability Action Yorkshire Chief Executive, said: “We cannot thank S+SA Architects enough for their continued support of our charity.

“The relationship we have developed with S+SA Architects over the years is one we truly value and one that we hope will continue for many years to come.

“Without the financial help of businesses, individuals and grant-giving organisations, we would not be able to provide the services we do to disabled people in and around Harrogate.”
