Employees from Manchester-based IT security specialists, Avecto, have successfully cycled coast to coast in aid of St Ann’s Hospice, the company’s charity partner, raising over £1,800 in the process.
The 170-mile ride from Morecambe to Bridlington is the latest in a series of campaigns from Avecto aiming to raise funds for the charity. Taking part in the gruelling two-day challenge was Kris Zentek, Product Manager at Avecto, who used the cause as motivation to tackle the unforgiving Pennine peaks.
He said: “St Ann’s Hospice does such a fantastic job supporting people across our region with life-limiting illness that we were determined to go the extra mile to show our support.
“With a strong headwind throughout, it was a punishing and demanding ride, but we pulled together and successfully negotiated our way to the Yorkshire coast.”
Over the past few months, Avecto employees have taken part in a number of initiatives and events in support of St Ann’s Hospice to reach the company’s fundraising target of £6,000, equivalent to a day’s care at the Heald Green-based hospice.
Jayne Bessant, Chief Executive at St Ann’s Hospice, said: “We'd like to thank the cyclists and Avecto for their on-going help as our charity partners. We rely on such relationships and would urge any other companies or organisations wishing to become a charity partner to get in touch with us.
"St Ann's cares for patients with life-limiting illnesses, their families and carers and those services are provided free of charge. However, we simply wouldn't be able to do that without kind donations from caring companies such as Avecto and their staff."
