Cash boost for youth mentoring programme

Cash boost for youth mentoring programme

"Using music and movement, we aim to inspire young people to be active, express their emotions through creative writing and educate them about the positive and negative sides of social media."
Laura Grant

Disadvantaged young people in Nottingham are set to benefit from a holiday club that will increase their confidence and enhance their mental health using the arts after receiving a cash boost from a local housebuilder.

The donation is set to fund a February club designed to provide young people living in disadvantaged areas of the community with the opportunity to learn about working within the music industry, whilst educating them about the safe use of social media.

Freedom Foundation was awarded £1,000 from Persimmon Homes Nottingham courtesy of its Community Champions scheme.

The charity offers children and young people with the chance to explore their individuality and learn to appreciate their self-worth through music and dance.

Laura Grant, co-founder of the Freedom Foundation, said: “Our holiday club creates a place where children and young people can receive expert training in all aspects of the industry and we can develop and nurture their abilities, backed and supported by industry professionals.

“Using music and movement, we aim to inspire young people to be active, express their emotions through creative writing and educate them about the positive and negative sides of social media.

“We are so pleased that Persimmon Homes has chosen us to support our holiday club as it will really benefit many young people in the local area.”

Neil Follows, managing director for Persimmon Homes Nottingham, said: “Our Community Champions scheme is all about supporting local people in the areas in which we are building.

“We are delighted to have been able to support Freedom Foundation, their work is fundamental to young people in Nottingham and helping to improve their lives.”

Community groups, charities and good causes across the country have benefited thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes.
